To celebrate the opening of the The Edge Hotel School in spring 2012 we are giving you the chance to win £1,000 and become a ‘Designer in residence’ with these fantastic compeitions.
The categories
1) A “partners” type desk situated in the entrance lobby of the hotel. Download the competition brief for this category

3) A garden bench to seat 4 people situated within the hotel grounds. Download the competition brief for this category

Who can take part?
The competition is open to all young people under the age of 26 by the closing date of this competition (9 December 2011).
The entrants can be in full or part time education, apprentices, employed or un-employed.

Entries must include the following:
A completed entry form, containing a written description (max 1000 words) of the object/uniform being designed including, reasoning behind design decision, details of materials to be used, production method and detailed production budget.
Detailed scale drawing and/or model of the object.
Phases of competition
Phase 1 - initial designs must be submitted for judging and shortlisting by midnight on Friday, 9 December 2011
Phase 2 - the shortlisted designers will be invited for interviews – during late December/early January - depending on no of entries/availability of panel) to discuss their designs and the production requirements with the panel of judges before being invited to submit the final designs and production notes by midnight on Friday, 20 January 2012
Phase 3 - Announcement of Winners – winners will be notified on or shortly after Friday, 3 February 2012.
The Prize
The winning designers in each competition will:
Receive a cash prize of £1000
Have their design manufactured for use in Wivenhoe House, the home of the Edge Hotel School
Have the opportunity to become a “Designer in Residence” at the Edge Hotel School at Wivenhoe House. This will include the opportunity to showcase their work; sell or take commissions for private work; provide workshops/demonstrations/master classes for hotel guests for up to 4 weekends in the calander year, commencing September 2012.
Should you win
Applicants must be available on (date to be confirmed) in May 2012 when the winning designs will be unveiled.

Applicants must be happy for their image to be used in connection with the competition and the Edge Hotel School media communications materials.
