This is an open call for non-UK artists currently residing and working in the East Anglia region, as well as for East Anglian artists who reside and work abroad.
The exhibition Outside 11: Artist as Outsider is looking to commission three site-and-subject-specific works for its upcoming show, which will be held in the grounds of Cuckoo Farm Studios on the outskirts of Colchester, Essex. Exhibition dates are August 13 – September 11, 2011. Alongside the new site-specific works we are looking for artists who can submit already existing works that reflect their experience of being non-native. Submissions from East Anglian artists who have re-located abroad and whose practice is consequently affected are also welcomed.
The upcoming exhibition Outside 11: Artist as Outsider aims to explore alterations in artistic practice as produced by migration and clash of traditions and cultural identities through an examination of East Anglia’s international artistic community. There may additionally be the opportunity for a number of artist workshops in the community, specifically with marginalized groups such as those with mental health issues, or in prison.
The final weekend of the exhibition coincides with Cuckoo Farm’s Open Studios weekend. Cuckoo Farm Studios is supported by Essex County Council, Colchester Borough Council and firstsite. Home to over thirty artists, Cuckoo Farm Studios has links to all the local and regional major arts institutions.
Please email crossmentoring11@gmail.com with expressions of interest and for a copy of the project brief. Work will be selected on the basis of project proposals that respond to the brief. There may be an open day/site visit – date to be confirmed. Deadline – Monday, July 1, 2011.
(Bursaries for this exhibition will be dependant on Outside 11 being successful in current funding applications which are underway. There may be opportunity for installation and showing of existing work for which there will not be a bursary, but neither will there be an exhibition fee.)
