Newham Homes has teamed up with Newham College of Further Education to make a video about celebrating Newham as one of the most diverse areas in the world!

Cynthia Mcintosh, Course Leader, Newham College of Education said that “I’m delighted that the students are geting a taste of ‘real’ work experience, they are exercising their skills and being able to expose their talent. The opportunity has made them feel very valued which is all part of the teaching we are doing here at Newham. They are also excited about being offered work experience.

The film that the pupils are making will be used to help raise Newham Homes’ staff awareness about diversity and to celebrate the differences between individuals.

Pupils at the college interviewed Newham Homes’ tenants and members of staff to help put the film together. Real life examples of people from different backgrounds were used to raise awareness of the benefits and richness that comes from cultural diversity.

Ornella said “it wasn’t until I walked into the room, that I realised it was a real project, all along I was just going along with the brief, but seeing them sitting there brought the reality home to me”.

Although I am definetely not in the picture I am proud of the teaching I have this year (2009), my students have produced a training DVD for Newham Homes. Of course as you can managers are often taking credits for the hard labour of teachers. On this one I must admit I usually take a sit at the back and let the students negotiate by themselves, because I trust my teaching skills.
