Photoshop creative exercise;-

Photoshop CS3 was used but higher versions can be used. In this Photoshop workshop, students do learn how to use the treshold tool and how to use layers, as well as import images into artwork. This is a basic tutorial which emphasis on using creativity with images downloaded. I used this least year (2009/2010), with the level 2 course and they have all enjoyed it.  With this tutorial it is advised to let the students discover art in general. Giving  a project to the students would be a good start, so they can research, sketch, prepare mood board, before starting with Photoshop.

It is advisable to encourage the students to used their own images, but for this picture I used:

After that, just encourage students to do their own.

Lesson Objectives;

- Using tools

- Using layers

- Importing images

Design rulesHelpforcmbyannagabali1 211x300 Creative and Media Level 2 Project Workshop

  • You must put you ideas on paper first – meaning sketches, plan
  • Start large and reduce as you need. Meaning create the poster first and then work out how the flyer will look. or just make the poster and then reduce to A5 or A6
  • Two fonts is ok, more think about it. Usually use a fancy font for the titles, remember the information needs to be understood.
  • Apply rulers before designing, otherwise information close to the edge/crop marks won’t print
  • Extra information to be added you need to look at size, color matching (i.e: logos or extra images)
  • Proof-read
  • Try Different combinations
  • find some printing quotes on the Internet

Now watch me in action recording life without rehearsal:

Print Post-Cards, Business and Leaflets

moz screenshot Print Post Cards, Business and Leaflets There is a printing company in London that offers quite cheap printing solutions. This quite affordable considering that some of us might need business cards, post-card, cd-covers and leaflets printed.Untitled14 300x240 Print Post Cards, Business and Leaflets

I went on and tried the online quoting system and tried a few scenarios, for digital artists

Learn Lightroom Phototuts+

Download Lightroom

I hear in the classroom, Photoshop is too expensive…..Well for keen photography students like Fatma and Tola, Lightroom would be the cheap and still good option to Photoshop for Photographers.

So Girls,  grab a copy of  Lightroom 3 (trial), sorry the Beta version 4 is no more available for grab, and mess about, enjoy digital post-processing (this will heart traditional photographers)….

I have tried version 3, this is far more better than the current version we use in room 313/314. Even a bad shot, can become an instant hit, beware with over-processing images.

Lightroom tutorials

And while you are there (not that I am advertising), take a look at the tutorials from phototuts+, they have a “four days essential tutorial” dedicated to Lightroom 3, and this more than enough, for starters. I am sure with this you will be able to explore the software, add plug-ins. I had a go at the tutorials, they are easy to read, that is if you like reading. But I guess reading will take a good part of studying photography and multimedia from now on, get used to it.

You can also get an cheaper version of Lightroom from the adobe site (students’ discount). How to get the money, well get your 1st photo shoot to pay enough for to cover the cost.

Try them, Enjoy!
